CIA Bootleg Manila partnered with Aidea, the Philippines’ most awarded architecture firm (ranked 40th globally in the 2023 World Architecture 100), to co-design and deliver a high-impact Innovation Masterclass and Innovation Hackathon Series. This was not just a creative sprint — it was the foundation for a new way of thinking across the firm.

Aidea is known for pioneering tech-driven design and building bold spaces. But in 2023, the leadership team sought something deeper: a way to institutionalize innovation thinking across every Aidean — from emerging creatives to strategic leaders.
Their challenge to Bootleg:
“How might we futureproof the way we work, think, and deliver in architecture?”
Together, we launched a full-cycle innovation initiative that would reshape Aidea’s strategic planning process for 2024 and beyond.
Bootleg and Aidea co-created a 2-part transformation platform:
🧠 Innovation Masterclass
An interactive learning experience that immersed Aideans in Bootleg’s human-centric innovation tools, built on consumer psychology, systems thinking, and strategy-by-doing.
Topics included:
• Creative Systems and Unblocking Stagnant Thinking
• Future Scripting and Scenario Building
• External Inspiration Labs (Unrelated Worlds, Startup Models, Consumer Triggers)
• Innovation Filters and Prioritization Frameworks
⚡ Innovation Hackathons
Following the Masterclass, 33 Aideans were selected to form 4 internal Startup Companies, tasked with solving Aidea’s top Innovation Priorities. Each team was mentored by Bootleg co-founder Aaron Palileo, alongside Arch. Jojo and Dean Jet.
Over 168 hours of intense collaboration led to:
• 87 new innovation proposals
• 8 Innovation Spaces explored
• 4 Startup Companies with implementable concepts
• Engagement across disciplines, roles, and levels
The program directly fed into Aidea’s 2024 Strategic Plan, serving as both inspiration and input for executive decision-making.
Bootleg’s contribution included:
• Co-Design of the Innovation Challenge and Sprint Format
• Facilitation of Masterclass and Hackathon Cycles
• Development of Innovation Opportunity Canvases
• Mentorship and Refinement of Final Proposals
• Documentation, Synthesis, and Strategic Recommendations
More than just outputs, the process left behind a mindset shift—a culture of innovation rooted in insight, speed, and collaborative ideation.
